Monday 20 April

  • Session 1: 10.00am-12.00pm
  • Session 2: 6.30pm-8.30pm

Location: ECD Architects, Studio 3 Blue Lion Place, 237 Long Lane, London, SE1 4PU

Please join us as we present the findings of our office Post Occupancy Evaluation and discuss tools which you could use to undertake your own Post Occupancy Evaluation such as:

  • Understanding comfort with environmental sensors
  • Benchmarking user satisfaction using the ARUP standard BUS methodology
  • Profiling electricity usage using the CIBSE TM22 tool
  • Sharing results on the Carbon Buzz platform

ECD has been based in its current studio in Southwark for almost 10 years. Located just off Bermondsey Street, the space is architecturally interesting and benefits from natural ventilation and lots of natural light, although the solid brick construction and single glazing are inefficient to heat.

Our involvement with the TSB BPE programme has inspired us to conduct this study, to take a frank look at the building-related carbon emissions from a typical ‘warehouse style’ commercial property and to investigate ways to improve the comfort and wellbeing of our staff.

We will be deploying sensors, loggers, questionnaires and a team of analysts in a bid to convert the building into live experiment over the heating season, culminating in Green Sky Thinking week.

We appreciate this chance to present our findings and encourage others to do the same. After all, Energy saving begins at HQ.

The Environmental Design Pocketbook 2nd edition places the information you need for sustainable, low energy building design at your fingertips. Packed with diagrams, tools and tips, it cuts through the complex mass of technical data and legislation that faces the designer, and distils all the key guidance into a single reference that is quick, easy to use and points to the facts, figures and performance data that are most important.
