Interface champion green innovation for a third year

Open-City is delighted to continue partnering with Interface at the Green Sky Thinking Week.

interfaceInterface, a worldwide leader in the manufacture of environmentally-responsible modular flooring, is widely recognised as a pioneer in sustainable manufacturing and business practices. In 1994 Ray Anderson, Founder of Interface, challenged his employees to create a fully sustainable company. The goal, more than ambitious, has led Interface to develop highly innovative processes in order to achieve their Mission Zero.

Joining us in 2013, Interface has exemplified the goals of Green Sky Thinking Week - to showcase practical and applicable solutions of built environment design and - to showcase the success of collaboration.

In 2013, Interface partnered with The Welcome Trust and Hopkins Architects, and hosted an event to discuss 'Radical Sustainability: A New Paradigm'. This event called for industry to cut the ‘greenwash of EPCs’ and move away from the ‘eco-friendly’ labels that are ‘designed to mislead’ and to enact radical sustainability. It can be done, as Interface’s mission zero can testify to - from innovative bio-fuel materials to community led projecst of up-cycling disused fishing nets, Interface are drastically reassessing their supply chain.

interfaceIn 2014, Interface partnered with Cushman & Wakefield and Crown Estates to discuss 'Well-being, Employee Productivity, and Building Performance'. Representing client, design team and product manufacturer the event argued for a 'non-silo' conversation that clearly put employee's productivity and well-veing at the heart of the design brief.

Speaking of why Interface wished to support Green Sky Thinking Week Kelly Grainger, National Accounts Director, Interface said "In 2014 we celebrate 20 years of Mission Zero and our journey to becoming a restorative company. Green Sky Thinking provides a great platform to challenge current thinking and to showcase design lead sustainability and innovation. Interface are very proud to be supporting Green Sky Thinking."
